Etcho takes its name from a columnar cactus of Sonora and Sinaloa (Pachycereus pecten-aboriginum). Its name comes from the Yoreme (Mayo) language, and its spiny fruits were once used as combs: an everyday tool made from what the land provides.
The desert is my main inspiration for how I think about technology. Life there works with what's available, adapts to its place, and depends on others to thrive. The etcho feeds migrating bats at night, and where bats are scarce, it lets birds and bees pollinate it by day. Same design, adapted to the place.
I try to build the same way: tools shaped to the problem, the simplest solution that works, and data we understand and respect.
